In a region with more than one million people, there is no modern medical facility to meet the most basic healthcare needs of the population. As a result, people continue to die of very basic, treatable diseases. • Everyday, doctors and midwives perform C-sections to deliver babies without the benefit of oxygen or heart monitors. As a result many sisters lose their lives during childbirth. • According to the United Nations, Somalia has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the world. Pic 3. Interior View Pic 4. Interior View About a year and a half ago, Amoud Foundation embarked on the Al Hayat Hospital Project in war-torn Somalia. Alhamdullilah, we were able to raise enough funds to buy land and begin the construction phase. The construction phase has now been completed.

Preparing the New Generation of Muslim Leaders

As the United States becomes home for more Muslim, both immigrants as well as reverts, it becomes essential that the community is educated enough to speak for itself. More over, it is imperative that our teachers and leaders are able to speak the local language effectively. Such a philosophy is dramatically different then those previously instituted. Although earlier models were successful, in a post 9/11 world, having well educated, well spoken Muslims will go far to rebuild the perception that many non-Muslims have about Islam.
